Pedro Ruiz, M.D., WPA President (2011-2014)
Dear colleagues, Welcome to Warsaw!
We are very pleased to invite you to join us at the WPA Thematic Conference “Neurobiology and Complex Treatment of Psychiatric Disorders and Addiction”. The Conference will take place in Warsaw from 5 - 7 June 2014, a wonderful month to see and appreciate the spring time in Poland. We consider it a great honor to be able to host such a prestigious scientific event in our country.
The agenda of the Conference will represent a multidisciplinary approach towards the problem of complex treatment of mental disorders and addiction, including neurobiological, psychosocial, and therapeutic perspectives.
The scientific sessions will cover a wide range of psychiatric issues including liaison psychiatry: its links with other areas of neurobiology. Perhaps now, in view of the most recent advances in medicine, social life, stresses caused by modern civilization, there is a need to reconsider once again the role of psychiatry in modern medicine.
We very much count on your active participation both in the sessions, as well as in the creation of the scientific program, and the overall atmosphere of the Conference.
We hope the Conference will provide an opportunity to share experience, and current practice in prevention and treatment of mental disorders. It may also be a chance to discuss current ethical, diagnostic, and nosological controversies in the area of psychiatry.
The leading scientists will be invited to give plenary lectures. In addition, several topical symposia, as well as poster sessions are planned. We hope the conference will facilitate the dialogue between young and experienced scientists representing different organizations, attitudes, and perspectives, hopefully resulting in innovative projects in the area of research on various mental conditions, particularly the alcohol dependence.
We hope to be able to organize an interesting and interdisciplinary scientific program that will meet expectations of all the participants. We truly believe that Polish hospitality will provide a platform of combining hard and effective work with warm and friendly atmosphere. The Polish organizers will do their utmost to make sure that this event in Poland will turn out to be both a source of great satisfaction to all its participants and an important scientific and cultural experience.
Warsaw is a modern metropolis with dramatic and fascinating history. It boasts an impressive cultural scene, there is a great sense of pride in Frederic Chopin in the Polish capital, it is also an immense scientific and academic center, a furnace of talents in many areas of knowledge - from humanistic sciences to biomedicine and from management to information technology.
I hope you will have a chance to take a taste of Warsaw attractions.
On behalf of the organizers, I look forward to welcoming you to Warsaw in June 2014!
